What is parkrun?
It is
- free (no charge to anyone, ever)
- 5 kilometre (just over 3 miles)
- a timed run
- for anyone, walkers, joggers, runners
- for fast or slow runners, within reason no one is too worried about how long it takes
- at 9am every Saturday

An important feature of parkrun is that it's much more than a run, it builds friendships and community, for many people the community aspect is greater than the run.

There are over 500 parkruns around the world, 8 in Sussex, 2 in Brighton and Hove - Preston Park and Hove Park.

There are also junior parkruns, free 2k, Sunday morning

Why do people do it?
Some parkrun because they're training to win serious races, some are training for a half or full marathon, some want to get a bit fitter or lose weight, some live alone and want to meet people, some have depression or stress and running gives them some time away from their daily life, and there are a hundred other reasons, so basically it's anyone who can get out of bed on a Saturday morning and get to the park and running gives good mental and physical health benefits for minimal cost.

How old can you be?
Children age 4-11 can run with their a parent/carer as long as they aren't put under pressure to run fast - it should be an enjoyable run for them.
Apart from that, anyone from 11 upwards can run (it's not uncommon to see 80+ yr olds) and you can run with a buggy or a dog.

Who organises it?
Local volunteers supported by staff at HQ.
The main team are helped by the runners who volunteer now and then.
