RUN BEVY RUN (or Walk or Jog)

What's it all about?
It's an informal group to increase your fitness a bit, so if you're a beginner you might want to be able to walk a mile without stopping or if you already run you might want to run further or faster, or anything in between - it's up to you to set your target, it shouldn't be easy but should be enjoyable, the important thing to stress is that it isn't boot camp!

Important health warning - If you haven't exercised much recently it might be worth checking with your doctor and having a look at the training suggestions below to get in a bit of practice first!

How fast will we go?
The sessions will be using 3 different paces, the speed will be different for everyone, but for a particular pace everyone should be working as hard as each other even though you are doing a different speed, so for some gentle pace will be walking and for others 8 minute miles.

Gentle - can have a conversation.
Medium - can talk but not manage a full sentence.
Hard - can't talk.

Where and when?
Starting with 6 Thursday evenings from April 2 (dates in timetable below) - meet at the Bevy, ready to set off at 7pm, and go back there afterwards.
We'll arrange to leave our bags there so you don't have to take spare clothes, money, keys etc out with you.
If we're not starting to run at the Bevy you can meet us 10 minutes later at the location in the list below if that's closer to home.

For each session we'll be going back and forward in sections so will all return to the same point - this means that whatever speed you do, you won't be away from the group for more than a short time.

Afterwards we can stay a the Bevy for a drink and chat.

Clothes
Basically, whatever is comfortable. T shirt, sweatshirt, shorts, joggers depending on the temperature. For women, a sports bra will be more comfortable. There's a useful article here

Shoes
It's better to have running shoes, but any sort of sports type shoe will do. If you buy running shoes they should be half to one size bigger than you usually wear, so that your toes aren't pushing against the end. A specialist shop will tell you this, but you'll need to remember for yourself if you're buying them on line or from a supermarket. A cheap pair of shoes is fine for this amount of training - if you enjoy it and want to run more then it will be worth spending a bit more at a specialist shop.

Training Suggestions
If you've never run before it's worth looking here (scroll down to the Couch to 5K table) and start with the walk/jog sections or you can use the timetable below and get some practice in before we meet.

Under 18?
Under 18s must be with an adult who takes responsibility for them (parent, grandparent, carer, family friend etc.

The future?
I'm starting this off but I don't live in Mouls/Bev/Bates area, if you want to continue it would be good if someone from the area took the idea and carried on with it - it's really a Bevy event not mine, so I'm happy for someone else to take it. I'll be happy to advise and come along sometimes but can't commit to doing it every week after the first 6.

There's also a follow on to this, the possibility of a regular 5k run in the area, have a look here.

Saturday May 9
Optional free 5k, parkrun Preston Park 9am at the chalet (square) cafe. Meet there at 8.50.
If you're going to do this please register beforehand click here and print your barcode.
Although this looks and feels like a race, it is a run, you can take your buggy or one dog on a short lead or your kids (under 11s must stay in sight of you). The people at the front will be very fast (under 6 min mile) so unless you know you are quick, please start towards the back, you can always overtake once everyone has settled down.
The run is free, but perhaps bring some money for a drink (or icecream if it's hot!) afterwards.
